With all of the self-indulgence that takes place beginning in November and lasting through the New Year, we could all spend a little more time giving back this holiday season. Thankfully, Giving Tuesday was created as a reminder to do just that. As a global movement taking place the first Tuesday following the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, Giving Tuesday is a commemorative day meant to encourage people to participate in a day of charitable giving.

The Otis Redding Foundation
Focused on fostering opportunities for youth to follow their dreams, in 2007, Zelma Redding established the Otis Redding Foundation in her husband’s honor. The foundation, which offers scholarships for youth in need and also provides youth programs such as the Otis Redding Center for Creative Arts, the Otis Music Camp and the DREAM choir, is dedicated to connecting the universal relevance of music to serve as a catalyst for education and other youth-oriented initiatives for growth. To date, the foundation has created several opportunities for youth to exercise their talents and expand their abilities through programs involving music, writing and instrumentation that encourage individual and team participation, build self-esteem and instill discipline. BlueJeans Rooms with Dolby Voice Room are being used to facilitate remote lessons and music instructions to help spread the joy of music to the next generation!
Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. Starting in 2010 in the wake of the hurricane in Haiti, Team Rubicon is helping underserved communities get back on their feet in a way that wouldn’t happen otherwise. In tandem, this international, non-government, veteran service organization helps reintegrate veterans back into civilian life. Starting with just a couple of marines in 2010, the organization quickly expanded to 10 regions around the country and more than 17,000 members. They implemented the usage of BlueJeans Meetings to expedite and coordinate relief efforts in numerous regions throughout the country.
Founded in 2007 as a philanthropy-funded non-profit, Khan Academy intends to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. Khan Academy India trains teachers across several national public and private school systems on the use of Khan Academy resources in their classrooms. By the end of last year, starting from an almost non-existent base, tens of thousands of students per month enrolled in pilot schools were coming aboard and using Khan Academy in their classrooms—something Vipul Redey, Head of School Enablement at Khan Academy attributes to the effective teacher trainings conducted over BlueJeans Events!
As an affiliate of the international homelessness services organization, Depaul International Group, Depaul USA is a national homeless services nonprofit organization that envisions a society in which everyone has a place to call home and a stake in their community. Celebrating 10 years of working with homeless men and women across the U.S., Depaul USA works to empower people affected by homelessness to make decisions, set goals, take risks and learn from their mistakes. Operating in six cities and with 17 programs, Depaul USA provides an array of services for the homeless, including permanent supportive housing, affordable housing, temporary housing, day centers and health clinics.
