Video Conferencing helps Royal Academy of Dance Stay Nimble

Overview

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world's most influential dance education organisations. Its exams set standards in classical ballet worldwide and it is a global leader in dance education and continuing professional development.

With a presence in 79 countries, 36 offices and approximately 14,000 members worldwide, RAD required a collaboration solution that would ensure meetings between teams are possible wherever they are.

Challenge

RAD's Head of IT had a very specific brief from the CEO: to make meetings possible that were previously too difficult or expensive to manage, across various time zones and increasing travel costs. RAD management and creative teams are located around the world and not always at headquarters (London), so the need for a better way to conduct meetings was apparent.

As well as facilitating senior management meetings, the solution also needed to better meet the demands of student examinations and the associated collaboration with the exam board. The exam board needed to speak with RAD students but many are learning remotely, outside of RAD locations, so the solution had to facilitate these meetings.

Finally, RAD was challenged with enabling better communication across the globe, in particular the five largest offices in Canada, USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The chosen video conferencing solution needed to enable these communications as IT did not have the internal resources needed to manage a complex system. This solution needed to be as easy to install as it was to use.

Results

Overall, being able to better communicate with people in other countries has opened up a whole new channel of communication for RAD that previously was not possible. Blue Jeans was easy for everyone to begin using without any training or IT support, particularly as it is used over existing PCs and mobile devices, and it means that RAD staff scattered around the world are able to meet far more regularly than before.

Many directors at RAD also travel a lot as part of their role, and the availability of Blue Jeans has meant they are able to conduct meetings over mobile devices and tablets whilst on the move. RAD is now also better able to support its flexible working policy, as Blue Jeans has made it a practical possibility. RAD has seen a increase in usage of over 300% and attributes that to the easy of use and accessibility of the Blue Jeans service.
