Video Conferencing that Expands the Reach of Counselling Services

Overview

Centacare New England North West (NENW) is a not-for-profit organisation in Australia which has been operating across the health, welfare and community services sectors for over 10 years.

Established in 2001 by the Catholic Schools Office and supported by the Bishop of the Armidale Diocese Bishop Luc Matthys, Centacare NENW was created to provide counselling services and promote the well-being of individuals, families and communities in the New England region.

Blue Jeans Network has become a critical part of our business; we are averaging 100 calls a month and are using the video conferencing service across all aspects of the business.

We needed a tool that provided face-to-face interaction without the costs associated with travel. Blue Jeans not only helped us eliminate the expensive outlays but also offers our community the chance to experience face-to-face communication and benefit from the richer experience it brings.

Centacare NENW offers a wide range of programs that cater to the mental health needs of families in remote areas. The programs include psychological and counselling services, family dispute resolution, parenting and family relationship education courses, mental health programs for children, young people and adults and the Personal Helpers and Mentors program.

Challenges

Centacare New England North West (NENW) was looking for ways to successfully and efficiently reach more individuals, families and communities across the New England region of Australia. The organisation needed to find a flexible tool that removed the challenges and cost restrictions of organising face-to-face psychological sessions, counselling seminars and mental health training programs.

Results

Centacare NENW now averages 100 Blue Jeans calls per month, with the majority of calls working as resources to help teenagers and members of the community experience one-on-one psychological and mentoring sessions with trained professionals based in Sydney and Melbourne.

Blue Jeans video conferencing has enabled Centacare NENW to achieve their business goals without placing unnecessary travel demands and costs on the business, professionals and patients that require the help. Per month, Centacare NENW saves approximately $10,000 in additional costs such as fuel and accommodation.

The organisation has also been able to partner with Headspace, a Federal Government initiative that offers support to Australian youth suffering from mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bullying and body image. Centacare NENW has been able to offer teenagers in the New England area Headspace's program through face-to-face education seminars and private video conferencing calls, free of charge.

The organisation also uses Blue Jeans to host annual board meetings with key representatives across the region, saving the organisation time and money. Centacare NENW also use Blue Jeans for internal staff training courses across their six offices located in Tamworth, Armidale, Moree, Narrabri, Inverell and Walgett. The training courses use features such as the active presence and screen sharing tools which assists with staff collaboration and interaction.

Centacare NENW strives to continue to be a leading service provider in the welfare and community services sectors. Blue Jeans has been an essential part of Centacare NENW business development, and the expansion of key services for individuals and families living in remote communities across the New England region.
