What’s your name and job
Michelle Ellis, Onboarding Program Manager

How long have you been with BlueJeans/Verizon?
I just celebrated 2 years on the BlueJeans side, 18 total years with Verizon.

How have your unique experiences and insights made you successful in your career?
When I started in wireless; text messaging cost money and we had to scroll through all the letters to make one word, so it was important to be patient when working inbound customer service.  Watching the evolution of the wireless industry has helped me to see the value in being both an early adopter and advocate for embracing new solutions.

What do you enjoy about working at BlueJeans/Verizon?
The people!  I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with some really amazing people. There are a number of people that I’ve worked my way up with in the business, and some that I’ve been getting to know over the last couple of years.  Regardless of the amount of time each person has a wealth of knowledge that they’re willing to share, a willingness to help, and are genuinely kind.  I’ve learned a lot from my peers and leaders during my time with the company.

Who/what are some of your biggest inspirations within the company?
Learning and growth are two things that are important to me.  I appreciate working for an organization that encourages both of these, and I’m equally fortunate to have leaders that want to see their people be successful.  Not just within the business but collectively; whether it’s  identifying a class that we could all take together or doing a fitness challenge these are the individuals that inspire my future.

Which benefits are your favorite and why?
I’ve used a lot of our benefits, but I have to say that the tuition assistance is by far my favorite.  This resource assisted with my Bachelors Degree and MBA.  I also intend to use it this year to pursue my PMP certification.

What’s the most unique part about working here?
With the OPM role, no two days are the same.  Each project is uniquely different, and with that brings a sense of excitement.

What's something most people don't know about you?
I’ve been learning how to cook new recipes for the crockpot.  With 4 children with busy schedules having a healthy dinner waiting for us, makes weeknights a little easier.  Now to get the teenagers to clean up…

If you could go back in time and tell the 16 year old version of you something what would it be?
Slow down! This time is going to go by so fast, slow down and enjoy it while it lasts because you will have forever to be an adult. Regardless of how you feel about the teenage drama right now.

How do you handle difficult or challenging days?
I’ve discovered that sometimes it’s necessary to just take a pause from whatever it is that’s creating the challenge. For me this pause comes in the form of taking a walk, playing with the dog, or doing some yoga stretches.  After the break I can tackle the situation with a fresh set of eyes and a new perspective.
